How to play TappyHour
The gist
- π± Everyone on their own phone. Host hits Start a game and shares the code.
- β‘ Wait for green, then tap fast. Slowest thumb drinks.
- π« Tap too early and you drink. Don't be twitchy.
- π² The game deals the whole night up front β every chosen round type gets a turn before anything repeats, and you'll see the running order before round one: π balloon race (tap to pop first), ποΈ stop the needle (freeze on the line), π¨ color clash (tap the color you see, not the word you read), π chicken (tap out before it blows), π§ echo (repeat the pattern), π’ ballpark (guess the number), π₯ hot potato (pass before the timer) and π«΅ most likely to (vote someone). Loser drinks.
- π» That's it β tap fast, don't drink. Cheers.
Further details
Get everyone in
Tap Start a game to become the host. Share the room code or invite link β everyone else opens it on their own phone and they're in. You need at least 2 to start; vote and hot potato rounds need 3+.
A normal round
The screen says WAITβ¦ then flips green. Tap as fast as you can β your reaction time shows in milliseconds.
- Tap too soon (before green) and you drink.
- Fall asleep and miss it entirely β you drink too.
- Fastest thumb earns the π; keep winning to build a π₯ streak.
Who drinks
The host sets the vibe:
- Everyone but the fastest πΊπΊ β messier, the whole table drinks except the quickest.
- Slowest only πΊ β tamer, just the last thumb drinks.
- Hard mode β don't just tap anywhere; when the whole screen flashes green, a white π― target pops up somewhere β hit that (the screen goes green, the target stays white). A tap anywhere else is a miss.
Other rounds
Plenty of rounds aren't a normal tap β stay alert.
π Balloon Race (2+ players)
Everyone gets a balloon. Tap as fast as you can to inflate and pop it first β 18 taps in normal mode β while your rivals' balloons grow beside yours. The drink rule decides who drinks: last to pop (tamer) or everyone but the first (messier). Hard mode takes 12 hopping π hits; a first miss loses one hit and later misses lose two.
ποΈ Stop the Needle (2+ players)
The marker makes one trip out and back β tap once to freeze it on the line before that chance ends. Closest is safe; the drink rule decides who drinks β furthest off (tamer) or everyone but the closest (messier). Hard mode flies the marker faster.
π¨ Color Clash (2+ players)
A color word flashes in a different color β tap the color you SEE, not the word you read. Wrong answer drinks; among correct answers the drink rule applies β fastest is safe. Hard mode adds two more colors β and sometimes REVERSES the round: tap the color the word spells (it's announced up front, stay sharp).
π Chicken (2+ players)
Stay in as the chicken gets bigger and shakier, then tap once to chicken out before the hidden bust. Waiting longer is braver; still being in when it blows means you drink. Among safe players, the drink rule decides β least brave (tamer) or everyone but the bravest (messier). Hard mode lights the fuse sooner, so it can blow within seconds.
π§ Echo (2+ players)
Watch the pads flash a pattern (each pad has its own tone β use your ears too), then tap it back from memory. Longest correct opening wins; then total correct positions, then speed break ties. The drink rule decides who drinks β worst memory (tamer) or everyone but the best (messier). Normal mode is 4 flashes; hard mode is 6, and they flash faster.
π’ Ballpark (2+ players)
A number question nobody knows cold β a film's budget, a landmark's height, a world record. Everyone answers blind and the closest guess wins. The drink rule decides who drinks β furthest off (tamer) or everyone but the closest (messier), and no answer is an automatic drink. Normal mode is multiple choice; hard mode drops the options and you type your own number.
π₯ Hot Potato (3+ players)
You get a warning, then the potato lands on someone. Holding it? Tap to fling it to a random player. Don't tap when it isn't yours β your first out-of-turn tap adds one foul drink, but you stay in and can still receive and pass the potato. When the fuse blows, whoever's holding it drinks 2; a fouled final holder drinks 3 total. Hard mode hides the fuse entirely and runs a longer, random one, so you never know how long you've got.
π«΅ Most Likely To (3+ players)
A prompt appears and everyone points at the player who fits best. The host chooses the friendly, chaotic, flirty, or spicy prompt decks and can replace a prompt before voting opens. Most votes drinks β double in hard mode. A tie follows the drink rule: everyone (messier) or just the tied (tamer). Sitting it out means you drink too.
π Ride the Bus (3+ players Β· the finale)
The grand finale: everyone calls the same four-card ride together β red/black, higher/lower, inside/outside, then whether the final card matches a suit already on the table. Each card reveals for everyone before the next call. Every right call is a drink you give out; every wrong one is a drink you take, and the same rank on a value call is a double. After the fourth reveal, hand out every drink you earned while the table sees each transfer. Hard mode gives five seconds per call; miss it and the bad-odds choice is made for you.
End of the night
The host can End game any time to see the round-of-the-night superlatives β biggest lush, fastest thumb, longest streak β then start a fresh session.
